Thermal Paste

How to Apply
Thermal Paste.

Thermal paste is the safest and most common route for CPUs, GPUs, laptops and regular repastes. The fitting method can vary by paste. More fluid pastes can often spread well under cooler pressure, while thicker pastes benefit from slower, more deliberate spreading.

Choose by priority Kryonaut vs Duronaut
Kryonaut Maximum performance and enthusiast builds.
Duronaut Long-term stability for demanding systems.
Before you watch Start clean, then apply carefully.

The goal is full contact without using an excessive amount of paste.

  • Clean both contact surfaces first
  • Use a controlled amount
  • Mount the cooler evenly

Direct, spatula and applicator methods explained by Thermal Grizzly.

01

Clean both surfaces

Remove the cooler and clean the CPU, GPU or cooler contact surface using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

02

Choose the right method

Kryonaut is easier to spread. Duronaut is more viscous, so slower spreading can be more important.

03

Use a controlled amount

Use enough paste to cover the contact area once pressure is applied. Avoid a thick excessive layer.

04

Mount evenly

Lower the cooler straight down and tighten gradually in a diagonal pattern for even pressure.

Do
  • Clean both contact surfaces properly
  • Let paste behaviour guide the method
  • Use even cooler mounting pressure
Don’t
  • Apply paste over old thermal material
  • Use excessive amounts of paste
  • Slide the cooler around once seated
